  7. Why CrossPro in the Schools? -----------------------------

CrossPro is an ideal language aid for primary and secondary school students.  This will combine vocabulary training with the use of the personal computer to hold a student's interest.  It can also challenge the student by requiring puzzle solutions to be completed within instructor-defined time limits.  The scoring system can be used to provide the teacher with a means of measuring student performance.

  11. The new Kid skill level setting also simplifies the program controls so that young children can use CrossPro without being overwhelmed by all the options available in the normal version.

  13. Truth in advertising timeﾉ  The 370 puzzles that ship with the program are fairly difficult, and so may not be appropriate for grade school students and young teenagers. (Older teenagers may be comfortable with some or all of these puzzles, depending on their abilities).

  15. However, the Puzzle Editing feature of the program does enable the teacher to transfer kid's puzzles from magazines into electronic form for use in the classroom or computer lab.  These puzzle files can then be distributed to students at their computers.

  17. If you want to create your own puzzles, CrossPro can read the puzzle files created by Crossword Magicｪ (sold by Mindscape, Inc.), Crossword Wizardｪ (by Cogix), and other programs.

  19. If this product achieves a reasonable degree of acceptance in schools around the country, Aspen Gold Software will work with our puzzle publisher to see if additional kid-level puzzles can be created for the program.

  21. Site License Prices -----------------------------

In order to make this product economical for educators, Aspen Gold Software offers a school site license option.  The site license requires the purchase of one regular single-user license package (see the accompanying "How to Orderﾉ" read-me file for details), at a special educational price of $20 (down from the normal $38 price, and even the special demo rate of $25).  Licenses for additional simultaneous users may then be ordered according to the following schedule:

  25. ** 1-9 additional users (i.e., up to 10 simultaneous users) = $6/user additional license fee

  27. ** 10-19 additional users (i.e., up to 20 users) = $5/user additional license fee

  29. ** 20 or more additional users = $4/user additional license fee.

These rates are cumulative.  For example, if a school has 14 users in a lab or classroom, it would need a site license for the first user and 13 additional users.  The price of the site license would be $20 for the first license (using the special educational price), plus $54 (9 x $6) for the first 9 additional users, plus $20 (4 x $5 for the next 4 additional users), for a grand total of $99.  Shipping charges are added to this amount ($3 within the U.S.).  Sales tax (4.5%) applies in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

An additional copy of the manual is provided for every ten (or fraction of ten) users covered under the license.  One set of program disks is provided per site license, with the site then authorized to load the program onto the hard drives of the designated number of computers.  Optionally, if hard drives are not available, the site can make that many floppy copies of the program.

School districts can acquire site licenses for multiple schools by purchasing a single-user license as above, and then adding the desired number of additional licenses for the district as a whole, with the rate determined by total number of users across all schools in the district.  Thus, a district with three schools and 42 total simultaneous users (three schools each configured as in the example above) would pay:

  37. $20 + $54 (9 x $6) + $45 (9 x $5) + $92 (23 x $4) = $211,

  39. instead of 3 x $99 = $297 for three single-school licenses.

  41. Additional user licenses can be acquired at any time, at rates determined by the school's (or district's) current installed base.
